Telecommunication

Your French GSM phone will probably work in Nosy-Be (check with your operator before leaving, as a rule the borderless option is free, but high communication costs).

Otherwise you can buy a chip “Orange” or “Madacom” (about 35 euros, no proof necessary, works with any mobile phone bi-band or tri-band unlocked) and you will have your own local line.

Orange and Madacom are the two GSM operators present in the main urban areas and tourist sites. After buying refills of 5,000 and 10,000 Ariary (2 and 4 euros) you will have about fifteen minutes of local communications.

In Hell-Ville, you can call from the telephone booths, send emails from Moustapha (next to the market) and the Oasis (Bon Bazar) or send faxes from Télécom Malagasy (behind the post office).
